Genesis

This piece started with the story of Adam and Eve, but I wanted to look at the fall from a slightly different angle.

I kept thinking about the moment they became aware of themselves. Before that, they existed as part of creation. Afterward, they saw themselves as separate from it — separate from each other, separate from the world around them, and separated from God.

That idea of self-consciousness interested me more than treating the story as a simple lesson about breaking a rule.

I built the image like an old science-fiction or fantasy paperback rather than a traditional religious illustration. Eden becomes something almost futuristic — a lost world that feels advanced, beautiful and just out of reach. I liked the tension between something ancient and something that looks like it could exist far in the future.

Maybe the fall was about disobedience.

Maybe it was also the moment humanity became aware of the distance between ourselves and everything else.

A lot of what came afterward can be read as an attempt to close that distance again.
