Fallen AI

This piece started with a question I kept coming back to while looking at AI-generated art.

Why does it seem so easy for these systems to produce dark, violent, almost satanic imagery on command, while beauty, hope, peace, and grace are often much harder to get right? I didn’t make this as a simple anti-AI statement. The more interesting question to me is whether that darkness is really coming from the machine at all.

Maybe it says more about us.

Maybe the machine is just reflecting what people keep asking it to make. Maybe the ugliness isn’t hiding in the circuitry. Maybe it’s in the author, the prompt, the appetite, and the imagination being fed into the tool.

That was the starting point for this design. I used the image of a fallen angel because it carries that tension well. It can be read as judgment on the machine, but it can also be read as judgment on the people using it. I wanted the piece to hold both ideas at once without forcing a clean answer.
